Background
Kichler Lighting believes that lighting shapes experiences and brings meaning to daily life. Their broad product portfolio provides comprehensive lighting solutions for the entire home, both indoors and outdoors—ranging from decorative fixtures and ceiling fans to interior lighting systems and landscape illumination.
Previously, Kichler operated with two distinct packaging designs in retail environments. While the goal was to consolidate these into a single design for both retailers, production schedules—from the award of product selection to the final packaging delivery—did not allow sufficient time for this transition.
Intent
The objective was to stand out among competitors in the lighting aisle and elevate the Kichler brand with retail-centric packaging that both inspires and provides shoppers with essential information for decision-making. Another intention was to improve shelf findability for consumers. Furthermore, the design needed to incorporate updated brand elements and be straightforward to produce.
The Ask
The project called for the development of packaging designs suitable for a variety of lighting categories, such as interior chandeliers, pendants, flush mounts, vanity fixtures, sconces, as well as outdoor wall lights, flush mounts, and pendants.
My Role
Working as part of a three-member team, I led agency direction and participated in multiple working sessions. My responsibilities included creating packaging concepts, providing direction to suppliers on color matching, revising guidelines and templates to shift from trilingual to bilingual requirements, and ensuring the refreshed look was also translated into branded in-store merchandising displays for products.
